Members and Artists

The art centre has an ‘open door’ policy, any artist or aspiring artist over school age living in the community or outstations is welcome to participate. Young and old, men and women are encouraged to join the Corporation and work with the centre. Children attending school are not allowed to paint with the art centre unless they have permission. Over a 150 Anangu (about a third of Papunya’s population) have so far registered with Papunya Tjupi Arts. We support artists from Three Mile Outstation, Five Mile Outstation, Town Bore and Blackwater Outstation. The artists from Papunya and surrounding outstations are intrinsically linked through family and culture.

Anangu can be a member of Papunya Tjupi Arts if they:

are considered a permanent resident of Papunya and or outstations

apply in writing

attend consecutive AGM’s

are 18 years or over.

The artists have a choice of becoming a full ‘member’ or remaining an ‘artist’. To nominate for membership applicants must complete a membership application for approval by the Management Committee. Members and artists or non-members are encouraged to participate in all art centre activities including meetings. Only members have voting rights.

At present the art centre has approximately 20-30 regular artists and another 80 or so occasional artists. The artists live in Papunya and the surrounding outstations Three Mile, Five Mile, Town Bore, and Blackwater.
